Visit to Srirangapatna

I visited Srirangapatna, Mysore a few weeks ago. Some friends and I drove there over the weekend. The first night we stayed at the Fort View Resort, which was kinda awful. Its not a resort, its like a ramshakle farmhouse by the river. The next night we shifted to the Amblee Resort, which was a lot better and we had a nice time there.

We visited a few places around Srirangapatna. The highlight of the trip was a visit to the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, where we rented a boat to ourselves and spent a wonderful hour on the water watching the birds and photographing them (see the photoblogs below).

Srirangapatna was Tipu Sultan's capital.. its full of history. So the next day we roamed around many of Tipu's forts and gardens. It was wonderful to see that most of the places were under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India, and were well maintained.

The roads to Srirangapatna from Bangalore are awesome. Its a four lane highway all the way, and fantastic to drive on. Takes just around an hour and a half to get to Srirangapatna from Bangalore. Its a perfect weekend trip...
